Windows

Windows

Those timid souls who watch from sunlit windows,

feel protected by the clear, brittle glass.

Never do they feel the wind blow

as trees sway and days flee past.

Those frightened souls who stare from dark windows,

imagine things fear will not let them touch.

Like children that hide from night shadows,

they yearn for sleep's safety too much.

Those foolish souls who live behind closed windows,

never live a real life at all.

They merely drag through life on tiptoes,

praying that they will not fall.

Those forlorn souls lurking behind time's windows

belong to prisoners trapped in worlds unreal.

For windows are man's transparent prisons,

designed for those too afraid to feel.
