Those Words

In bed, my love, words once confessed

that ached beyond my ears to rest

upon my soul,

"I need a strong woman."

As sleepless hours wake to long with loneliness,

they prey upon me, steal my rest,

          as I remember,

"I need a strong woman."

As endless hours wind and wine is shared with none,

and evenings drag without the one

I love, I hear,

"I need a strong woman."

In farce, a laugh, a smile may pass,

lest they know my helpless task,

to exist for your words,

"I need a strong woman."

How I hate those days spent to spend a day,

hearing those words that forever play

upon my mind,

"I need a strong woman."

Oh God, when the night mocks brave and bold,

I feel my blood run icy cold

with those words,

"I need a strong woman."

Love, to you, I feign each fleeting moment,

lest you discover my secret torment

in your words,

"I need a strong woman."
